Don't Forget About The Pause
In today’s culture, it's easy to get caught up in the fast pace of life. Our day can be filled with so many activities that we forget to take the time for the "PAUSES". What do I mean by the "PAUSES"?

Whether you're in full-time ministry or not, it's easy to get distracted by all the things we need to accomplish throughout the day that we forget to STOP and PAUSE.

Sounds so simple doesn't it? However it's one of the hardest things to do. My wife has a small little plaque of wood that says... "Keep It Simple". To often our day is filled with all kinds of activities we find ourselves to exhausted because we've forgotten to "keep it simple".

For those who are in active ministry, you might find yourself going from meeting to meeting, conference to conference, worship practice to worship practice or from one service to another that we have forgotten how to pause and take time for the ONE THING that is important.

There is a story found in the word of God that illustrates this very thing. Two sisters who had an encounter with Jesus, but each of them had two very different experiences. Imagine... it was God himself who came to spend time with Martha and Mary.

Let's take a look at this very familiar story found in the word of God...

Luke 10:38-41 (NIV)
38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”
41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Here are a few things to notice about their encounter with Jesus. Mary took the time to "PAUSE". She kept it simple by taking advantage and connecting to the "ONE THING" that was needed to be done at that moment. Meanwhile her sister Martha, was distracted by all the preparations that she felt had to be made. Simply put... Martha forgot to take the time to "PAUSE".

When it comes to the area of Worship... we can easily get caught up or even distracted by following the routine of our "LISTS" of 4 fast songs and 3 slow songs, the offering and then the message. Like Martha, we can become distracted with all the preparations. We might even feel that we need to complete our song list or we might even find ourselves trusting in our own talent rather than connecting with God. When we do this we can find ourselves disconnected with the melody "THE SOUND OF HEAVEN" that God is releasing at that specific moment to bring healing, salvation and revelation to the body of Christ.

Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with having a list or plan, (I too have my notes when I preach) but if we become so attached or bound to those things we may easily miss the spontaneous melody that is coming from heaven where the SUPERNATURAL is being released.

If our worship is not connecting with heaven... it might be because we have forgotten to take a moment to "PAUSE". I truly believe that God is desiring to reveal Himself to us but we MUST be connected with what is happening in Heaven in order to SEE and HEAR that which HE desires to reveal to us. (Matthew 6:10 & John 5:19)

This might mean that we need to stop and not to be in such a hurry to move on to the next song in order to complete our list. This could also mean that we need to just completely stop, wait, listen and then act. The important thing is that we allow ourselves to be in-tune with what's happening in heaven so that it can expressed.

I would like to just encourage you to take the time to tune into what God is saying and doing this week as you lead God's people into an encounter with Him.

Be richly blessed in all that you desire to accomplish for HIM.

Sincerely,
Pastor Christopher Goins
